Abuja - The Rivers State chapter of the
Nigerian Association of Women Journalists
(NAWOJ) has disclosed the alleged rape and
death of a 10-year-old girl in the state.
According to the Daily Post, the suspect in the
case, identified as Mallam Bashir, raped the
girl to death when her mother sent her out to
buy milk from the man's kiosk in the
Rumuibekwe of Port Harcourt.

Bashir is alleged to have grabbed hold of the
girl before forcefully raping her, damaging her
internal organs and causing her death just days
later.
The incident has caused a mass outcry in the
state, with NAWOJ joining hands with the
International Federation of Women Lawyers
(FIDA) to ensure that the suspect is tried
before he is granted bail by the court.
