Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil
Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State
Command have rescued a nine-year-old boy,
Korede Taiwo, at Ajibawo village in Atan-
Ota, Ado-Odo Ota local government area of
the state.
Following the report from vanguard it was learnt that the boy was accused
of stealing meat from their cooking pot by
his step mother identified as Kehinde.
The step mother was said reported the
case of alleged stealing to the father, a
pastor, who reportedly tied the boy’s
hands and legs with chains.
Confirming the incident, the Public
Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Olanrewaju
Kareem, in a statement, said the boy was in
chains until a neighbor informed officials
on surveillance patrol of critical
infrastructure in the area who rescued the
boy.

Kareem further disclosed that the boy had
been chained for one month at the
Celestial Church of Christ (Key of Joy
Parish) .
The boy after he was rescued, according to
him, was tired and pale and was not able
to talk.
“ On getting to the church, there was
serious resistance by members, led by the
pastor’s wife, Kehinde, but men of Civil
Defence Corps insisted, and were able to
force their way into the premises and found
that the boy was actually in chains”, the
PRO added.

“They quickly took him to the office for
necessary entries and documentation and
proceeded to the General Hospital, Ota.
“The boy was bathed and one Dr.
Akintunde at the hospital asked NSCDC
officials who took him there to cut the
chains to enable them administer treatment
on him. “Before our men left the hospital,
he had been responding to treatment as he
had started talking. However, the Hospital
Medical Director one Dr. Osinbajo who came
later assured the Corps that the boy will get
necessary medical attention. “The step
mother and the chain with padlock have
been handed over to the police”. Meanwhile,
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer,
Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said the
Assistant Inspector General of Police in
charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, AIG
Abdulmajid Ali,has condemned the pastor’s
alleged action, saying the matter will be
properly handled and the fleeing pastor
apprehended.
“He has ordered that the young
boy,Korede,be given proper medical
attention,”the AIG said.

Mother chains daughter for refusing to attend school

This woman chained her daughter to a street lamp post for playing truant from school. The eight-year-old child was tied with a metal chain around her ankle and tied to a large metal post. The young girl was left there by her raging mother. Good Samaritans heard the girl crying in the car park outside the family's apartment on Wednesday afternoon. They tried freeing her but the thick chain was strongly secured with two padlocks - leaving the girl stuck for over an hour before arrival of the police. She told cops that her mum had punished her because she failed to attend mandarin classes at school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Benin residents instructed not to cook with fire on Sunday

Oba of Benin The Benin Traditional Council has instructed residents not to cook with fire on Sunday, June 5, as part of activities for continuation of the 15 days funeral rites for late Monarch, Oba Erediauwa. The instruction is contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the Benin Traditional Council, Mr Frank Irabor, made available on Friday in Benin. Irabor stated that Sunday would be the day of Edenagberen- Mwiwu in the royal funeral rites programme and as such, there would be no cooking with fire, in accordance with Benin customs and tradition. He then called on Benin indigenes and non-indigenes in the kingdom to observe the Igberimwin rite.
