Cristiano Ronaldo Wins Champions League Best Player Award

Cristiano Ronaldo has won the
2015/2016 best player in the Champions
League award as voted by Spanish and
Italian sports papers MARCA and Gazzetta
Dello Sport after scoring 16 goals ( 51 in all
competitions) to help Real Madrid claim an
11th European Cup/Champions League
title, which together with his country’s
triumph at Euro 2016 also makes him the
number one favourite to reclaim the Ballon
d’Or.

‘I’ve won the Champions League and the
Euros, it’s a beautiful moment in my career
and my sporting life,’ Ronaldo said at the
AC Hotel La Finca in Madrid.

‘It just makes me want to keep
working hard for this club. I hope
to remain at Real Madrid for years
to come,’ Ronaldo said. ‘This is the
club I love. We have a big squad
that can cover for Luka Modric and
Sergio Ramos’ injuries- it’ll be
difficult but Real have the quality.

Posting a photo of him carrying the
prestigious award on his Instagram page,
he captioned it:
‘Gracias/Grazie to the readers of
Marca and Gazzetta dello Sport for
this award. Wouldn’t have been
possible without my team mates.
Thank you all!’

Benin residents instructed not to cook with fire on Sunday

Oba of Benin The Benin Traditional Council has instructed residents not to cook with fire on Sunday, June 5, as part of activities for continuation of the 15 days funeral rites for late Monarch, Oba Erediauwa. The instruction is contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the Benin Traditional Council, Mr Frank Irabor, made available on Friday in Benin. Irabor stated that Sunday would be the day of Edenagberen- Mwiwu in the royal funeral rites programme and as such, there would be no cooking with fire, in accordance with Benin customs and tradition. He then called on Benin indigenes and non-indigenes in the kingdom to observe the Igberimwin rite.
