FOLLOWING the ban on Shiites as unlawful
society by Kaduna State government, Kano
State Police Command has warned the people
of the state, especially those who organise and
conduct religious processions, to desist from
the act or face the full wrath of the law. The
command in a statement signed by the public
relations officer, DSP Magaji Majiya, and made
available to newsmen in Kano on Tuesday, said
this served as a warning to those who were
fond organising religious processions. The
Commissioner of Police warned that the
command would not relent in ensuring that “law
and order prevailed on any religious group or
sect that is trying to become a threat to public
peace and order.” According to him, the
command will continue to respect the people’s
rights to religion, but that it would not allow any
group to abuse the rights by breaking the law
and infringing on other people’s rights. “We
hope the good people of the state will continue
to cooperate with the command to avert the
criminal intent of some few elements in the
state and its neighbourhood,” the police
spokesman added.
