One killed and others injured as train rams into traders vehicles in Enugu Market


TRAGEDY in Enugu yesterday as a train driver rammed into buses and traders at Ogbete Main Market, Enugu, killing a young man by name Ikechukwu.

Several people were also left with injuries as the train got to the area without the usual blaring of horns to alert other road users.

An eyewitness said:
The train, said to be
returning from Port Harcourt, Rivers State,
barely missed a tricycle rider at the Zik
Avenue intersection before getting to the
Ogbete Market, where it killed one.


One of the vehicle drivers, who narrowly
escaped death, said:
“God saved us because what the man driving the train planned was to massacre people and set the whole place on fire. If not for God, who moved the vehicles out miraculously, we all would have perished.”

Another eyewitness, a businessman at Ogbete Market, Mr. Lawrence Eze, alleged that “the train man always drives recklessly and he does not like to sound his horn, until he is close to the level crossing.”

Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident, describing it as horrible.

Herbalist kills 13-year-old boy in juju experiment

A 26-year-old herbalist, Ekene Oluka, allegedly killed a 13-year-old, Obumuneme Oluka, while testing his anti-bullet charm on the deceased at Amagu-Uwani, Mgboko, Aku of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Enugu State. It was reported that the herbalist fled after the incident. The herbalist had, at different occasions, successfully tested his charms, which was said to protect against bullets and cutlass, on the young man. Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ebere Amaraizu, in a statement said the command had activated a manhunt for the fleeing herbalist. Amaraizu said: “The herbalist, Ekene Oluka, from the same kindred with the deceased, had allegedly tested his charms for protection against guns on the deceased.
