electricity cable belonging to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) that connected News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Lagos Office, to the power line destroyed on Monday by some suspected vandals. The Deputy Director of Technical Services of the agency, Mr Mathias Ajudua , said the act was discovered when the official of EKEDC came to repair their transformer thinking it was a fault from the transformer. Ajudua stated that while the EKEDC officials were checking round the equipment, they discovered that two yards of cable that connected the agency to power line had been cut off by a vandal Ajudua estimated the cost of the cable to about 200,000 Naira. Eko DISCO should urgently assist the agency to repair the cable so that it would be connected back to national grid, He appeals to the management of Eko DISCO.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the National Counter Terrorism Strategy (NACTEST) implementation workshop, yesterday, the Secretary to Lagos State Government, Tunji Bello stated that the fight against terrorism must be all-inclusive, going further, he said that while the Federal Government is expected to provide leadership, other levels of government, non-governmental and community based organisations must be carried along. Bello said: “This is very crucial, given the unconventional nature of terrorism. Therefore, all hands must be on deck and all stakeholders must be on the same page and be ready to contribute their fair share in the deal to ensure a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all and sundry.” The SSG, who represented Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, said that Lagos State Government will continue to extend necessary support to security agencies in the state.

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’ has Charged the two alleged notorious smugglers in Lagos to Magistrate’s Court. The suspects, Mr. Oyedeji Rashidi and Mr. Shuaib Sheyi were arraigned yesterday at the Magistrate’s Court, Ikeja, Lagos State on a nine-count charge of smuggling prohibited items. The two suspects, according to Customs spokesman at the FOU, Jerry Attah, have been remanded in Ikoyi Prison on awaiting trial list as the case was adjourned to February 15, 2017. While taking the seized goods to the office, one of the suspects, Oyedeyi Rashidi incited a mob attack against the operatives, who were armed with various dangerous weapons such as guns, cutlasses, broken bottle, sticks, stones among others, which resulted to a shootout between the custom and the smugglers.

Lagos - The Lagos State Fire Service said a six-year-old girl was burnt to death in a church in the early hours of Saturday in Egbeda area of the state. The Director of the service, Mr Rasak Fadipe, said that the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. at Faith Revival Church. Fadipe said that the inferno affected the boys’ quarters of the church while a vigil was going on at the main auditorium. “We met the fire raging when we arrived. It was after the fire was put out that we discovered the little girl’s burnt body in one of the rooms. “The church authority was yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.
