Researchers from Tokyo and Kyoto University managed to turn human stem cells into cartilage cells and then placed them in tiny tubes shaped like human ears. Those tubes were later implanted under the skin of a live rat for about two months. Human ears to could be ‘grown to order’ within five years, claim Japanese scientists who have unveiled a rat with an ear on its back Over the course of time, the plastic framework dissolved, while the cells grew into ear-shaped mass of flesh onto the rodent’s back.
