TRAGEDY in Enugu yesterday as a train driver rammed into buses and traders at Ogbete Main Market, Enugu, killing a young man by name Ikechukwu. Several people were also left with injuries as the train got to the area without the usual blaring of horns to alert other road users. An eyewitness said: The train, said to be returning from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, barely missed a tricycle rider at the Zik Avenue intersection before getting to the Ogbete Market, where it killed one. One of the vehicle drivers, who narrowly escaped death, said: “God saved us because what the man driving the train planned was to massacre people and set the whole place on fire. If not for God, who moved the vehicles out miraculously, we all would have perished.” Another eyewitness, a businessman at Ogbete Market, Mr. Lawrence Eze, alleged that “the train man always drives recklessly and he does not like to sound his horn, until he is close to the level crossing.” Enugu State Police Public ...

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enalamah, yesterday, said the results of the efforts by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration will surprise Nigerians in 2017. The minister, who was in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital spoke with newsmen at the 8th Session of the National Council on Industry, Trade and Investment. Dr. Okechukwu Enalama said the Federal government is Seriously working to end the current economic recession. He said: ”You will start seeing result at the end of this year and early next year. Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), one of the militant groups terrorizing Nigeria yesterday claimed the bombing of a Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) offshore export pipeline at Escravos, Warri South-West Local Gov. of Delta State. Their spokesman, self-styled Brig-Gen Mudoch Agbinibo, tweeted what the group said: “At about 3:45am, our strike team 06 took down Chevron Escravos export pipeline at Escravos offshore. ”This action is to further warn all IOCs’ that when we warn that there should be no repairs pending negotiation/dialogue with the people of the Niger Delta, it means there should be no repairs. Any attempt to use dialogue to distract us so as to allow the free flow of our oil will halt the dialogue process.” Before the militant group claimed the involvement of their hands in the attack, Ofe Nene, Chairman of Ugborodo Community confirmed the explosion, saying, “I do not have details of the incident, but a blast occurred last night at an offshore location.”
